Womanifesto on Religion

1. I do not believe in gods, goddesses, angels, devils, other mythological creatures, souls, sins, karma, past lives, an afterlife, reincarnation, resurrection, heaven, or hell.

2. I respect that people do believe in these things and more.

3. I realise that I cannot change this.

4. I respect people's right to their beliefs.

5. I can respect the person without necessarily agreeing with their beliefs.

6. I do not believe that beliefs are above criticism.

7. I will refrain from debating religion with my friends unless I think we can have a thoughtful and objective discussion where no one will be offended.

::thumbs up::

Too bad not everyone thinks that way.

I am going to convert to Scientology just so I can laugh really hard about it and not feel bad. :D

...Actually, I make fun of it NOW and don't feel bad, so meh. Cults me make laugh.

I, too, had to come up with something similar. However, it's unbelievably trying in a Catholic school. Sometimes, I go home and my head implodes. Well, you know....

Yeah. I'd stay away from guy-girl discussions, too. Those always end badly, and the two of us have volatile views. :)

*applauds* Go team Kate!

I think that views of life (sexism, religionism, and any other made up words that deal with ways of life that not all people agree about) are best discussed in a situation where the two people can have a rational, fluid discussion. I don't think that posting on boards is as good as IMing or talking face to face.

Hey, Colin. Maybe you should take a page from Kate's book.

My best friend's family are Scientologists, and there's really a lot of good to be found in it. It has some nice ideas.

Perhaps you should consider criticism without "laughing really hard," which just offends some people and makes other people think you are an ass. Thanks.

I was being ironic, which I guess you didn't pick up on. I do think Scientology is a cult, but if people want to do it, that's fine with me. The only religion I REALLY laugh at is the one with the big sheep in the sky from Andy Richter, but anyway.

I suppose I didn't pick up on it, since you're so good at blending your faux-pretentious-teenaged-bitterness with your actual pretentious teenaged bitterness. Terribly sorry.

Thumbs up to Merv the Perv for getting in on the ColinSmackdown action.

Kate, you make me sad - I wanted you to be an atheist missionary. Travelling around, yanking people's entire belief systems out from under them - FUN!

Yes, talking about Scientology makes me burst into fits of pretentiousness. Thanks for judging my character blindly without ever speaking to me. (I don't even know who you ARE except that you're offended by EVERYTHING)

Children, children. My comments are not for off-topic arguments.

Sorry. >_

I think I should type one of these lists on my own site...I am still feeling like an idiot for commenting on this in the first place, and I wish I hadn't said such dumb things. I think I'm going to keep rambling until I feel like less of an idiot. On the other hand, the more I type, the more idiotic I feel, so I am going to stop now. Also, my eyes hurt really bad, and I have to go finish Act Three of Teh Romeo 'n' teh Juliet by teh Guillaume Shakezpeare.
