Religious miscellany

"With God all things are possible."
Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27

"It was impossible for God to lie."
Hebrews 6:18

"But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
Genesis 2:17

"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food ... she took of the fruit therof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."
Genesis 3:6

"And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died."
Genesis 5:5

Oh, the Bible. Why are you filled with such craxiness?

Atheism is a non-prophet organization.

I don't like how a lot of atheists are really just anti-christians, which is lame. I don't like the Skeptic's Annotated Bible either, it's just a malicous, unbalanced attack on Christianity - haha look at those silly Xians - sort of thing. :-\

Word of advice: Read the book of Genesis as you would read a fairy tale. Genesis is rather... flawed.

"With God, all things are possible" means that you can do anything if you have God in your life. That one's not a contradiction. K, thx. Bai!

It makes more sense in Hebrew

#4 is a nice way of blaming women for the weaknesses of men, ne? and having a reason to oppress them? hmm. oh, organised religion, could you be any more corrupt?

Brinz, I don't find it unbalanced [there's a list of "good stuff" in the Bible] and even malicious seems a little too harsh. I wouldn't call it an attack on Christianity, either, but rather an attack on the Bible.

"The SAB will help those who believe in the Bible to honestly reconsider that belief. It will help those who are unfamiliar with the Bible to resist the temptation to believe. And it will help those who have already rejected the Bible defend their position."

Neil, I read the Bible in general as I would a fairy tale. ;)

Merv, are you sure? "And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible." That doesn't seem to be saying that j00 can do anything if you have God in yr life to me. Anyway, it's not really important. Omnipotence always gets me, though. Could God create a rock so big that even he couldn't move it?

Venom-p, I wish I could speak/understand Hebrew. It's a really cool language. =)

And in general, I do not have a problem with Christians. Some of my friends are Christians. They believe what they believe; I cannot ask them to change that. I do have a problem with stupid people, though, and I do have a problem with Christianity the religion. Although I have a problem with organised religion as a whole, so don't feel special, Christianity.

That seems a bit contradictory to me. You post a lot pointing out the faults of Christianity, as well as say that you don't like it, but then say you don't hate Christians. To me, religion is manifested within the bonds of man, not necessarily because some god made it so. In addition, if you insult someone's way of life, I think you are also insulting who they are, as well. If I said that atheists were just trying to be different to get attention, I think you would be offended. No one likes to have their way of life questioned. ESPECIALLY Americans.

If I seem self-contradicting, it's probably because at this point in my life I'm very unsure of myself/my beliefs and/or my beliefs are constantly changing/evolving. However, in this particular case, I think it's just because we have different ideas.

I think I can criticize a religion without criticizing its followers; you think that to criticize a religion is to criticize its followers.

I don't have time to bust on Ruari with the anti-pretentioun stick. (I love making up words) Speaking of self-contradiction, "religion is manifested within the bonds of man, not necessarily because some god made it so" would make sense if religion was the Elk's Club. Some belief about the supernatural is what most people would say is what makes a religion a religion.

Since i beleive in the power of the human mind i can understand how this "god" can have power..since so many beleive in him it might be possible that so many subconcious thoughts may have unintentionaly manifested a higher being containing the will of "his" people...but thats my theory
