Well, I finished my powerpoint presentation for German at last, and I didn't even have to use XP. See, my computer is crap and Win98, but so is my brother's computer and he has Powerpoint, so I just made him sign on AIM, and then send it that way. [It was too big to e-mail it.]
It is quite darling, I think. We had to make all these sentences like "When I was a kid, I could. . . " and "When I was a kid, I liked. . ." and I accompanied the sentences with baby pictures. :D
I really and truly love photographs. I was looking through all our old photos in search of sentence-appropriate ones, and it just brings up so many lovely memories. :D I think I'm going to stick them up around my room now. Maybe I'll even scan some for your viewing pleasure. >D
Also, apparently I'm one of this girl's dailies. So that makes me feel honoured, even though she is a good-for-nothing Wiccan. ;D And Maddy has a new [to me] layout, which is lovely as usual. And I sent this girl a letter of complaint about her clique. Would you like to read it? Of course you would.
Okay. I found your clique, and I have a few comments about it. First, though, I would like to say that this isn't a flame. I'm not trolling; I'm not trying to make you mad. I'm politely disagreeing.
And before I even start, I'd like to say that yes, I'm a girl. I do like the colour pink, but hell, pink's just a colour. I wear dresses sometimes, but mostly I wear jeans. I don't think that says anything about me. I rarely wear nail polish, not because it "bugs me," but because I'm too lazy. And I never wear make-up. And I like Björk. ;P
Now, on to why I have a problem with the clique.
I think you're just reinforcing the stereotype that girls a) like pink, b) wear dresses and makeup, and c) are generally prissy and unathletic. Yeah, it's cool that you like big dogs that drool and don't have a problem with burping, but aren't you a girl? So how can not thinking burping's rude and that big, slobbery dogs aren't monsters be anti-girlie?
And "4] you'd rather hang with the guys than the girls (and not to get down and dirty)" really kills me. Not all girls are squeamish just as not all guys are jocks. I'd rather hang out with my friends [guys and girls alike] than stereotype one sex and only make friends with members of that sex. And implying that "girlie girls" only want to hang out with guys for sex borders on ridiculous.
Anyway, I just think your clique is kind of misdirected. If I were you [which I'm certainly not, so please don't interpret this as me telling you what to do] I would change the goal of my clique to redefine "girlie" rather than continue the "girlie-girl" stereotype. As in, "Girlie is: to play football," "Girlie is: to listen to Björk," "Girlie is: to snowboard," "Girlie is: to webdesign," "Girlie is: to wear whatever I want," "Girlie is: to laugh at dirty jokes," etc.
What I'm getting at is that "girlie" is whatever girls do or are. Some girls are self-centered preps whose lives revolve around makeup and clothes and boys, but should we let that minority define us as a gender?
And if you think that's the shittiest idea you've ever heard and I'm talking out of my ass, then that's okay. But I would at least suggest changing the name of your clique from anti-girlie to anti . . . well, I don't know. Anti-make up or anti-stereotype or anti-pink or anti-nail polish or anti- whatever it is you have a problem with.
On the other hand, you could decide I'm full of crap and ignore me entirely. It's completely your choice. I'm just writing because I don't think an anti-girlie girl can really exist.
Nevermind about Office XP. I did download it from KAZAA, but I'm too scared to do anything with it, lest it totally ruin my computer forever. So Brinzy is kindly sending me a CD of it. =) He's such a nice young lad.
And I hope everyone over the age of 18 and a citizen of the United States voted today. >| Or else.
Almeda | 05.11.02 19:18 | TrackBackThat last sentence sounded like something my German teacher would say during one of his speechs on how important voting is.
